The Wanderer

The Wanderer
by Kahlil Gibran

Wow, amazing! I just had to get that out there first before I continued. Gibran's collection of short stories is very impressive. While most are only the length of a page they are so masterfully told that in their sweet simplistic ways, the secrets and meaning of the universe is revealed. He was definitly a master story teller. His style, while consideriby higher in tone, voice, and vocabulary than today's standard, was actually plain and unadorned compared to his contemporaries that lived during the turn of the century.

The content is most wholesome, having truth, wisdom, and light woven in between the lines of the words. His story are more accurately parables in many ways because of the deeper meaning they carry inside of them.

Over all reading him is very relaxing, almost calming. Its unlike most things you will ever read, no complex words and vocabulary to get stuck on. No over complication of the issues and problems. And yet, captivating all the same. His style is minimilism at its finest, but the message behind the words carry hope.

While content and style were up to par, he brought something fresh and new to the reading experiance and was able to surprise me greatly, and because of this the Wanderer gets 7 out of 5 stars. For going above and beyond any expectations.

If you have not read this yet you have to!

Here is an example of one of his stories:

The Shadow

Upon a June day the grass said to the shadow of an elm tree, "You move to right and left overoften, and you disturb my peace."
And the Shadow answered and said, "Not I, not I. Look skyward. There is a tree that moves in the wind to the east and to the west, between the sun and the earth."
And the grass looked up, and for the first time beheld the tree. And it said in its heart, "Why, behold, there is a larger grass than myself."
And the grass was silent.

So you see, a foot wide, but a mile deep. If you are an intelligent person, he makes for great reading. Because no matter how many times you read what he wrote, you will always find some new and deeper meaning of his meaning of his words. And thats why I recommend Kahlil Gibran to everyone who enjoys the long forgotten past time of pondering and thinking. :D
